In celebration of the skateboard
Artists James Jarvis and Ged Wells have a shared obsession with skateboarding, both worked with iconic London skateboard shop Slam City Skates in the late 80s and early 90s.
Only meeting recently for the first time, the two collaborated on an exhibition - PLANK, at Quay Arts on the Isle of Wight, exploring and celebrating the object that has informed and defined both their early career paths - the skateboard.
Jarvis presented artwork that reduced the skateboard to its essence as an object: a plank of wood.
Wells exhibited a series of zoomorphic, shapeshifting relief sculptures depicting malcontent skateboard graphics, evolved as purposeful planks, carved from an errant tree of life.
Some of the images created by Wells now form part of Insane's new Skateboarders Are Animals collection. First to land are stickers with more products coming soon.
